Another month, another round of fresh, good weed. Here are seven strains hitting dispensaries in August 2022.
Cronja: Cap Junky
Came up on some of Cronja’s Ginseng OG, and man, that was good weed. It smoked clean, got me dumb high, and its sour-gas taste had my palate doing jumping jacks. Weed was so good that I had to reach out to Cronja to see what strains it’d be dropping next. The answer is Cap Junky.
Cap Junky is a cross of Kush Mintz and Alien Cookies that was brought to life by a couple of legends: JBeezy (Seed Junky) and Capulator (the father of MAC). Combining the two strains brings out a gassy, slightly fruity, flavor profile.
Cronja told me that the most dominant terpenes in Cap Junky are caryophyllene, myrcene, and pinene; and the effects might have you on chill mode but still active.

Seed Junky Genetics: Pineapple Fruz
That Pineapple Fruz isn’t new, but it’s definitely worth knowing. I smoked some Pineapple Fruz smalls a while back and was completely impressed with the taste and quality — peeped some big nugs of it, and them frosty thangs had your boy shook.
Pineapple Fruz is a cross of Animal Mints and Zkittlez Bx1. It smells and tastes so damn sweet, man. On the aroma, you get sweet-yellow-fruit notes with a lil’ kick of gas. It carries right through to the smoke, where you’ll get mostly a mix of sweet fruit and premium unleaded gas. While the terp profile — dominant in limonene, caryophyllene, humulene, and linalool — will definitely unearth you, the real winning quality of the strain is the effects.
I love a great daytime smoke, and for me, it was an excellent wake ‘n bake strain. If you like to pair weed with coffee and take over the world, this may just be the strain for you. I felt a heavy stone in my eyes, but a motivated type of energy in the body that never trailed off into a sleepy relaxation. This is some get-shit-done weed. You can get Pineapple Fruz all throughout California.

Ball Family Farms: The Phonzie
The Phonzie is the first strain Ball Family Farms made that’s named after an actual person, J Alphonse Nicholson, or Lil Murda in Starz’ hit show P-Valley.
Like all BFF strains, The Phonzie is bred in-house. It’s a cross between the brand’s Bruce Leroy and Laura Charles, and it smells and tastes sweet and fruity. According to Nicholson, “It’s got a guava margarita with a bit of sugar on the rim type of vibe.”
This strain’s terpenes are dominant in limonene and caryophyllene. The high has the potential to be soothing and manageable, potentially great for even novice consumers who haven’t built up a high tolerance to cannabis.

Ecozotics: Shady Apples
Your Highness in LA grows some nice nuggetry. That Smiley Face was delicious. Recently, I reached out to see what they have coming next, and the answer was a whole new line: Ecozotics, a greenhouse line of its flower that will feature Shady Apples, amongst a few other strains. “It’s bringing great weed to the consumer at a better price point and better for the environment,” said Your Highness.
Shady Apples is a cross of Apple Fritter and Kush Mints #11. As you can expect from the name and lineage, it has that sweet apples and gas flavor that Apple Fritter produces in cultivars. The terpenes are heavy on limonene, caryophyllene, and myrcene. It’s a social feel-good high that potentially has that slightly sleepy effect.
Ecozotics will be sold exclusively at The Pottery LA and The Pharmacy in Santa Ana, Santa Barbara, and Berkeley.

22Red: Jellymintz
22Red is Shavo Odadjian from System of a Down’s brand. You can scoop them in California, Arizona, and Nevada. I tapped in to see what they had coming next and heard Jellymintz was on deck.
Jellymintz is a cross between London Pound Mintz and Jealousy. It smells and tastes like sour citrus and slight menthol. The cultivar is dominant in limonene, linalool, caryophyllene, and myrcene. The effects can be relaxing, where you can just sit back and be merry. It’s a potentially great end-of-day smoke.

Fog City Farms: Pacific Chemistry
I was introduced to Fog City Farms at the last Hall of Flowers. There are some good folks over there, man. Some good weed too. After enjoying the Deep West Mango and Chemistry, I asked what was next for the squad. Pacific Chemistry, that’s what.
Pacific Chemistry was bred by Boston Roots Seed Co. It’s a cross of Motorbreath #15 and Headbanger that has the lemony, earthy, gassy terpenes you’d expect from that lineage. The strain’s three most dominant terpenes are myrcene, limonene, and caryophyllene.
Effects-wise, Pacific Chem might touch you with a smooth relaxation and creative mindset. Find it throughout California.

Mohave: Pineapple Mac
Mohave’s weed is always good every time I try it. They’ve got some good genetics coming down the pipeline for August, too — Pineapple MAC being one of them.
Mohave’s Pineapple MAC was bred by Dr. Zodiak Genetics. It is a cross of Gelato #41 and MAC that has a Pineapple Upside Down Cake type of vibe. The aroma and flavor kick out sweet notes of fruit juice with gassy complements thanks to a terp profile dominant in limonene, caryophyllene, and linalool.
Effects-wise, Pineapple MAC put me in a happy mood with a little pep in my step. Scoop it throughout California and Arizona.
